So, let's get ready to rumble!

To get list:

Everything in mind (pictures seen that makes you laugh, something completly stupid or weird. Your choice..)
Picture editing program (Photoshop [Works best] or GIMP [FREE, for Windows, Mac and Linux])
A VTF editing program (VTFEdit [FREE and it's the best in my opinion])

In the event you're a zombie and your brain has been ate by a friend, go to step XXL. But if you are a human being and have some or lots of ideas, get to work and make a sketch of your projet. In your picture editing program or even on a piece of paper. Take some time to think of it and appreciate your sketch before going on. When you're completly satisfied with your plan, you can go to the next step..

II - Preparation of the files

Get to your favourite picture editing program (like Photoshop or GIMP). Create a brand new picture with one of those recommended dimensions:

256px X 256px (Never more than that!) Download : PSD or TGA
128px X 128px Download : PSD or TGA
64px X 64px Download : PSD or TGA

Set the background to transparent.

Put any pictures you previously got or design whatever you want! May I suggest you not to 'copy/paste' a single image in your work since it will not represent your style but someone else's work.. Try to be creative (This is why I told you to sketch it BEFORE begining this step..). It is more easy to reproduce your sketch than try to steal one..

There is some ideas you could work on:

A collage

An artwork

At this point, you surely want to save all of your files before your computer crashes.. Believe me, it happens particuly at those times! :-)

Once this is done, you'll have to save your finished file to « .tga » format. Just open the 'File -> Save As' command menu, there is supposed to be a file format chooser somewhere at the bottom in the 'Save As' window. Select the « .tga » file format and this is it! If TARGA Options are asked, select 32bits/pixels with no RLE compression.

Download, install and open up VTFEdit.

First! Go to 'Options' and make sure the 'Auto Create VMT File' is checked.

Go to 'File -> Import' and select your project (in « .tga » format).

When the import window shows up, let all the fancy options as they are for now..

Now you see the image exactly as it will look like while in-game. If there's something wrong, go back a few steps and check it out..

If you are satisfied with what you got, go to 'File -> Save As'.

Give a cute little name to your file and then save it to those two directories:

C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppsNAMEteam fortress 2tfmaterialsVGUIlogos

AND

C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppsNAMEteam fortress 2tfmaterialsVGUIlogosUI

If the directories doesn't exist, well.. Just create it as specified!

After that step, go check if you have « my-project.vtf AND my-project.vmt » files in both directories « logos AND UI ».

V - Getting ready to show it!

Save all your current work, close all programs.

Launch Team Fortress.

Press the 'Options' button, then in the 'Multiplayer' tab, check for the drop down menu list and choose your spray.

If you don't see your spray, it means that a file and/or a folder is missing. Close everything and go check if you have all the four (4) files mentionned at the end of the previous step in the correct directories.

If your spray is there and has been selected, join/create a server and show the world your amazing skills by pressing 'T' near a wall. Immediate results garanteed!

Plenty of people are able to make sprays.. And there's a lot of bad one.. Be smart enough to 'think' to what you'll make.. Taking a pornographic image and putting it in a spray will not make you the 'coolest' player ever.. Maybe if it's terrificly weird or completly original and never ever seen you'll get some comments but.. If this is all you can think of, you're maybe too young or too ugly to have S-E-X and trying to compensate..

A Hell of a Campaign

Rick May, the inimitable voice of the Soldier for thirteen years, many shorts and countless updates, passed away this April at age 79. We were lucky enough to work with Rick many times in the studio over the past decade. A quick-witted and kind-hearted collaborator, Rick endowed the character with a trademark bellow and bootfulls of idiotic charm. The Soldier wouldn’t be the Soldier without him.

We are honoring Rick during the month of May with an in-game Soldier statue that will play some of Rick’s signature lines. He will be missed by the Team Fortress dev team and community, and remembered for the indelible character he helped bring to life for so many years.

The biggest event on the Competitive TF2 calendar is back again! Teams and players from around the entire world will be heading to the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England, to the Insomnia Gaming Festival for their chance at glory and a share of the prize pool. Taking place from Friday, August 23rd, to Sunday, August 25th, the event will feature three days of non-stop action and the highest level of competition the game has to offer.

If you wish to support the event there is an ongoing fundraiser where you can donate money or purchase a range of items; money raised goes towards the production, prize pool, and supporting the North American team, Ascent.NA, attending to represent their region.

Update on The Crate Depression of 2019

On the evening of Thursday, July 25th, a bug was introduced that allowed some older crates to grant an Unusual hat on every opening. We fixed the bug the following morning and decided to trade-lock the hats from the bugged crates while we evaluated the situation.

Over the past week, we have been discussing ways to address this situation with the goal of minimizing the impact on the TF2 community as a whole, while preserving the experience of customers who had simply opened a crate, made a trade, or purchased from the market on the 25th, unaware that a bug produced their item.

During our investigation we discovered that a small number of accounts acquired these hats and a smaller portion of those accounts acquired an exceedingly large number of them. Based on this, we've decided that if you currently own one of these Unusual hats, the first one added to your account will be made tradable. Any other Unusual you have received due to the bug will remain permanently trade locked. If you decide that you would rather not have these trade-locked hats on your account, you may instead elect a full refund on any number of them.

The number of Unusual items being made tradable represents about one month of the regular Unusual drop rate.

A few of you were concerned that you had done something wrong by opening a bugged crate, and proceeded to delete your hats. While we appreciate the concern, you didn't do anything wrong, so hats from bugged crates deleted before the tradable date will be restored to your accounts with the same restrictions described above.

Item tradability, restoration, and the refund support page will be made available in about a week's time. Refunds will be the full price paid for any hats, crates or keys bought on the Steam Community Market or Mann Co. store. We will post an update when that exact date becomes available.
